Welcome June 2024

As we move into the month of June, two things always jump to my mind. One – this is the sacred time of weddings, and two – this is the time of the power of Summer Solstice. What makes June sacred is that the Goddess, Juno (Roman) also called Hera (Greek) is the sacred patron of maidens and women. It is she who blesses unions and blesses the conception of children. In fact Juno blesses all creative acts and her power is strongest in mid summer. She is profoundly feminine, and powerful. Legend has it that Juno causes the wealthy to share their wealth with poorer folks, or for good causes. All the rivers, streams, lakes and oceans are her domain in summer because of the life that is created from the water.

Summer Solstice is a time of gathering of family and tribe. It is a time to celebrate the feminine – the ability to endure and to create. It is a time of healing when we cleanse to make ourselves stronger; when we ask for blessings to prevent tragedy and to protect us and our projects and crops for another year. This is a time of abundance for the first of the harvest – lettuce, green onions, peas, beans, and herbs are now ready.

The full moon in June is called “The Mead Moon” for this is the best time for making dandelion wine and honey wine.   June’s emotions are about loyalty and bonding.  Our Ancestors also knew that June, with its unpredictable weather, is about enduring and continuing.  Healers often pick herbs at this time because the strong summer sun and moon are good vibrations for the harvesting of herbs for cleansing, strengthening, and for protection.

May your June be sunny and happy!

Blessings,

Judy

Toad Plays “Who Do You Love?”

Picture from medium.com

Last night, as my dog and I walked out in the park at dusk, I could hear all the different frogs singing their songs.  And then it got quiet.  My dog and I heard this boom, boom, boom.  It sounded like a drum.  Then, there was a steady rock’n roll beat, and an image appeared.  It looked like “Toad” – the toad from Toad Hall – was going to sing.  He was standing over the water, and looked about six feet tall.

The words that he sang were “who do you love”, over and over in a deep, bass voice.  I know the song, so I was expecting to hear him begin to sing the whole version.  However, the words changed to “do you love you”, in the key of G, with a deep, 4/4 drum beat.  I was startled!  It seemed like all the animals (deer, dogs, ducks, geese) paused and looked up.

I thought I did love me.  Yet, when he sang those words, I felt this guilt flow through me as though I did not love myself enough.  Wow! That was something that I am going to work on.  I realized that Toad was singing about “angel love” or unconditional love, and that I had not gone far enough with me.

Then, Toad began to sing again, “who do you love?”, and the visions I saw were of all the important people in my life.  These were the people that I love.  My big surprise is that there were several people missing.  The missing people were in a screen called – “Like, don’t love even though you thought you did”.  Another surprise!

Toad now started singing, “Gotta work it out, baby!” And, he sang that over and over as his voice faded away.

Why did a cartoon or movie type image appear to me?  Well, at that moment, Spirit decided that this image was something that I would relate to, and therefore, understand the message more clearly.  The images that appear to us, or the words or smells or “knowings” that we get, are symbolic to us as individuals, and sometimes as archetypes of groups or tribes.  The symbols convey a message.

I got my message, loud and clear!

Blessings,

Judy

When Badger Appears to You

clip_image002

Badger in an inquisitive moment! Courtesy Microsoft clipart.

Did you know that badgers are by nature very playful? This trait is because Badger is part of the same family as otters (very playful!), ferrets (also playful) and weasels. Most of us though, tend to think of badger as grumpy and perpetually fierce. Most of what we know comes from Britain where they have lived forever, and are one of the favoured animals of the Green Man - keeper of the forest and all things wild.

Badger may be solitary or may live in clans of up to about a dozen members. They are very family oriented and will stop at nothing to protect their mates and their young. Badger's courage is widely admired as it has been known to fight wolves, bears and man, and send them all fleeing. For this reason, many European coats of arms feature badger as a prominent insignia - to show stamina and courage. In tribal cultures, the badger skin was a worn as a head dress to show that the chief or warrior was strong and full of courage, just like a badger. Indeed the black stripes on the badgers head, around the eyes is reminiscent of war paint used from the time of the ancients.

When Badger appears in your life, you may be sure that it is now time to put fear aside, and to take the step beyond compromise. Badger encourages you to stand your ground, to be firm in your boundaries, to speak your truth and stand in your power, and to disregard what others may think or feel about what you are doing. Be sure that when Badger appears you are in a place where all you love is being or going to be challenged. She says that you must fight now or risk losing all forever.

Blessings,

Judy

Celebrating Winter Solstice On Dec 10 2023

Some folks have asked how we celebrate Winter Solstice.  Each year it is slightly different.  This year, I was guided to have our celebration early because of the weather ahead so we scheduled for the 10th of December.  Winter Solstice is about the shortest day and the longest night.  By having our celebration on the Sunday, 11 days early, we had a bit more daylight and we started early…at 4 PM.

We have a group - our tribe - that comes to our meditations and celebrations.  Including my husband and me, we had 17 people in front of the fire.  Yes, we have a fire to light the way and to carry away all that we throw to it.

Our steps for the evening included:

  1. Smudging everyone
  2. Drumming
  3. Welcome and quick overview of what will be happening
  4. Opening Sacred Space
  5. The theme
  6. Breathing exercise to support the theme
  7. Meeting the guides for this evening
  8. Several quick meditations
  9. Sharing Circle
  10. Closing Sacred Space
The experiences that folks had were amazing!  It was fun for all of us.  The evening helped to wipe out some anxiety and restore balance.  The energy was so high!  It all felt right.

Blessings,
Judy

Karma Files - Resistance to Visiting a Medicine Wheel

image

Several people have asked me for examples of how clearing karma in this life time works.  I am sharing a story about the experience that I had eleven years ago when my husband and I were going to experience a medicine wheel.

Years ago, we visited the Sun Dial Medicine Wheel and I was grateful that I knew how to clear karma.  You see, I was quite resistant to going to the medicine wheel, and I did not know why.  I just knew that something dreadful would happen.

I let this emotion build and build and I talked myself out of going several times.  Finally, common sense kicked in and I realized that there must be some reason for the reluctance to go to the medicine wheel.

I sat in meditation one night, and asked why I had this issue.  I heard that I needed to clear Karma using the guidance of the Angels of Karma.  I have a great meditation for this purpose and I sat in meditation.

The first story that needed clearing was that several thousand years ago, I was a Medicine Man working with my tribe at the medicine wheel.  At the end of our ceremony, the sky went dark for three days because of an eclipse.  At that time, the Earth turned more slowly.  My tribe believed that I had stopped the Sun.  They thought that no one should have that power, and they killed me.  Coincidently, the Sun returned after they killed me, and the People believed that they had done the right thing.

There were several more stories that were similar in that I died near or because of the medicine wheel.

When I cleared the energy of imbalance around these stories, my body relaxed and I was able to travel to the wheel, and to enjoy.

Many blessings,

Judy

Cougar Watches - Spirit Animal

image

My friends have a Cougar or Mountain Lion, living in their forest behind their house and farm yard.  You can tell when it is in the trees, watching who is coming and going, because all the horses move to the fence closest to it, and watch back.  The horses stamp their feet and neigh, and then after a while, go back to grazing.

When I was in meditation, I contemplated the Cougar and why it was watching the yard so intently.  It seems that it is watching for something that is not in the highest interests of the people and other animals.  This Cougar, so far, has not attacked the dog, chickens, horses, or cattle. Cougar seems to be well fed and unconcerned about the animals roaming about.

Cougar, in this case, seems very guardian-like.  At night, sometimes, my friends can hear the Cougar make its coughing roar.  It is very much like a warning to stay away.  It is true that legends tell of the great cat who protects tribal villages, and warns the tribe when danger is coming.

Perhaps this gift of service from Cougar is being reinstated with my friends.  I am looking forward to meeting Cougar out in Nature, at their place.

Many blessings,

Judy

Some Thoughts About Karma

 clip_image002

A while ago, a reader asked me to write more about karma.  Here are some quotes about karma that come from Buddhism.

I started learning and practicing Buddhism several decades ago.  And, I am still learning as there are so many nuances to the Buddhism way of life.

The online Dictionary.com defines karma as:

kar·ma
NOUN
  1. (in Hinduism and Buddhism) the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existence.

I translate this as meaning that how you manage yourself in your past lives will determine how you are treated and regarded in this lifetime.  Many think that karma is only about past evil deeds coming back to haunt them in this life.  However, past life kindnesses and closing of loops of bonds with people are also part of the clearing of karma.  More about this in a later post.

Some thoughts:

"I am the owner of my karma.

I inherit my karma. I am born of my
karma. I am related to my karma.
I live supported by my karma.

Whatever karma I create, whether good or evil, that I shall inherit."

The Buddha, Anguttara Nikaya V.57 - Upajjhatthana Sutta

Many blessings,

Judy
