April 1 For Love and Fools

“Spring Palomino Colt” from Microsoft Clip Art j0406498

This is what we call “April Fool’s Day”.  Yet, to our Ancestors, this was the day for “Love”.  Romans, Greeks, and Norse-Germanic traditions celebrated the goddesses of love, sexuality, orchards and growing things, and water.

This day symbolically represented the day of planting. It was, therefore, necessary to have the Blessings of the Goddesses, for the second Universal Law is “all creation comes from the female”.  Women offered fires and incenses and wine to the Goddesses Aphrodite, Venus, Freya, and Hathor (Egyptian).  In return, the women wanted a blessing on love, family, birthing, and joy for the next part of their life.  In some cases, women might even court the man to let him know they were interested, and then drop him, so that he, in turn, would court her.

It was this day that made fools out of lovers, and lovers out of strangers, for sometimes, the Goddess would sprinkle potions on the food and drink of the humans.  It was a day that nothing serious should happen except for the extolling of the virtues of one’s beloved.

April is also the time of the pairing of birds (love birds is the nickname for this time of year), and the building of nests. Baby animals are either present or on their way.  This is the month of the “Budding Trees” Full Moon. Planting begins and is sometimes completed during the month.

May your April bring newness to your life!

Squid Talks About Movement

image

Sometimes, I am simply surprised at the wonderful creatures that show up for my meditations and who want to share some thoughts.   I do not know very much about Squid.  So, I looked up some information.

“Squid have differentiated from their ancestral molluscs such that the body plan has been condensed antero-posteriorly and extended dorso-ventrally. What before may have been the foot of the ancestor is modified into a complex set of tentacles and highly developed sense organs, including advanced eyes similar to those of vertebrates.  …. The majority are no more than 60 centimetres (24 in) long, although the giant squid may reach 13 metres (43 ft). – Wikipedia”

Squid came in because it wanted to share some thoughts on moving.  Here are her ideas.

  • There is not any one way that is the best way to move forward.  We squids move by kicking our tentacles. Others move by their feet propelling them forward.
  • In the medium of water, we can move up and down, and hover, much like the hummingbird.  This type of movement is like a dance.  It is graceful.  Movement should be graceful.
  • We move with the currents of the ocean.  This is about being in the flow of life.
  • Some believe that we are sacred animals because we move our tentacles by putting them together as hands clasped in prayer.  All beings are sacred for we are all connected.
  • Some believe that ocean dwellers have no souls; they believe that we are monsters – and that the larger we get, the more monstrous that we are.  Perhaps it is the way that we move that causes this fear.  When something moves in a strange way, we tend to fear it.

Squid’s final words were about allowing all beings to move through their lives with ease.

Fear of Failure

image

The Angels tell us that there is no such thing as success or failure.  They also tell us that we can have fear of both of these situations.  They suggest that the biggest fear is that of drawing attention to ourselves.  This comes from our Ancestor’s day.

In the past, when you drew attention to your self, often, you were killed in some way – eaten by a hungry animal, killed by the enemy, or disposed of by someone who feared your power.

The challenge that we all have is to move through our daily routines in a fashion that does not judge what we do as a success or failure.  Each action we take is a learning action, and one that helps our progress forward.

I like this quote….

Have a wonderful day and observe any fear that comes up.

Canada Goose and a Spirit Message

"Canada Goose Gander In A Tree"

The first time that I saw a Canada Goose in a tree, my reaction was, "What the ..?"  And then I saw a goose several more times in this tree and in various trees, and I began to be curious. I have been seeing geese in trees for the last five years.  First, my curiosity was around why he was behaving this way, and second, I wondered why I was continually seeing this behaviour. I finally snapped this picture.

After I took this picture, I realized a certain irony in the situation.  There are wonderful stories about goslings (baby geese) being imprinted with the first thing that they see upon hatching.  The imprint leads the gosling to regard that object/animal/person as their mother and supreme leader until the gosling is ready to fly on its own.  Now, here I was, imprinting the goose forever in my memory by actually taking a picture of it. There had to be something going on at a Spirit level.

I remember reading in a Ted Andrew's book that goose is about the call of the quest  and travel to places of legend. Perhaps goose was reminding me that my life is  a quest and that I better get moving on it.  Or, perhaps it is to be a reminder that magic is possible, as in legends - that the impossible such as a goose in a tree, does happen.  Since the goose is sitting up high, and this particular group of trees is in the middle of a grassy field, it seems that the goose is actually a "guardian or look out" for the small group of geese that were below the tree and along the stream.  There are several coyotes in the area that do use the long grass for ground cover as the coyote quests for food.

The idea of "look out" sent me on a new wave of thought.  Perhaps this is a warning to be on the look-out for those things which may creep up on you.  Or, it may be a reminder to be protective and to guard your mate and your family and friends.  Goose is often associated with writing and telling the story because our ancestors used goose quill pens as writing tools.  So, the idea of being on the look-out for a story or for workshop material also seems like part of the message.

The message that resonated with me, however, was "responsibility".  This goose shows that one must accept responsibility in the group to help the group's survival.  Further, goose accepts that there is a role each of the group must perform, and in doing that role, one doesn't get to indulge in self serving actions (eating, drinking, resting, playing, or simply refusing to get involved but wanting others to do the work). This realization caused me to do some soul searching.  Was I stepping up to the plate?  Was I doing all that I could do to assist my group? Was I self indulgent?

The answer, I realized, is in the perspective.  When you are higher up, and more removed from the situation, such as goose is, up in the tree, one sees the bigger picture.  One sees how the field merges into the trees and into the bank of the stream and even the stream itself.  One sees the symmetry and balance of being able to forage without worry while another guards.  If however, you are one of the geese on the ground, all you see is the detail around you.  Part of the balance then, comes from each goose taking a turn at sitting in the tree as the look-out while the others, including the previous look-out, take time to eat and rest.

In each of our lives, there are those people who are always demanding that we do more - that if we do not do more, we are "not responsible" or "not loving" or "not being part of the group".  As goose shows, one needs to be on the  "look-out" for those people in your life that will manipulate you, and will put your life out of balance.  The goose sends the message, then, of being discerning in where one goes and in the people or groups that one associates with, to guard against being out of balance.  That is a soul felt message from Great Spirit!

May you be peaceful and at ease, and may you be balanced.

Many Blessings,

Judy

Forgiving A Family Member

“Yellow Roses” - Picture by Judy

The Oxford Dictionary defines family in several ways… one definition is “all the descendants of a common ancestor”.  That is a really big definition!  It is even bigger if you think that genealogy blood work shows that we are all descended from “the seven daughters of Eve”.  This is actually the name of a book written by Brian Sykes.  Check it out for Christmas season reading.

Back to the point - family is big.  When one of the family members does you wrong, it is very hard to forgive the family member.  So much that needs to be forgiven happens in families…

  • Cruelty
  • Guilting
  • Punishment
  • Belittling
  • Beating/abuse
  • Theft
  • Abandonment
  • Lack of food and clothing, and even shelter

You get the picture of some of the family actions that require forgiving.  Even worse, some of these activities cause individuals to stay stuck in a place where they relive the moments and feel the recurring pain.

There are many practices that one can use for forgiving family members.  What many do not understand is that forgiveness does not mean accepting the family member.  Forgiveness does not mean you have to be buds with the family member or that you have to like what they did or even like them.  Just as you choose your friends that you hang out with, you can choose which family members that you associate with.  Forgiveness means that you can move on in your life without them, that they no longer have a hold on your life.

In the process of forgiveness, the Abundance and Healing take hold in your life.  You can now move forward.  You can follow your own path.

Blessings,

Judy

Ancestors Speak - Allergic Reactions to Food

image

Picture from Cropsandsoil.oregonstate.edu

A while ago, I had a bad reaction to some food that I ate.  I was sick to my stomach and my hands and feet and face swelled.  My husband suggested that I do a journey via karma clearing to see what was causing the reaction.

As I tumbled back in time, I heard the words – NIGHTSHADE, Potatoes, Peppers, apples, plums, peaches…. and then I saw different vignettes of me eating a food, and choking and dying.  There were quite a number of foods that did this, however, mostly they came from the nightshade family.  Not knowing exactly what this family contained, I looked it up and found…. The nightshade family or potato family includes Datura (Jimson weed), mandrake, deadly nightshade (belladonna), capsicum (paprika, chili pepper), potato, tobacco, tomato, eggplant and petunia. There are superstitious beliefs about the nightshade family (Potatoes, Tomatoes, Peppers, and Eggplant) and how they may harm the immune system or be unfit to eat.  Actually, many of the vegetables in the nightshade family are staples in one's diet, particularly in the Middle East where Eggplant, Peppers and Tomatoes are eaten in abundance.  These vegetables are also known for their great medicinal purposes.  However, they may be poisonous to some like me.

I also did some research on Apples and found “Apples - apple seeds like the seeds of some other fruits in the rose family such as peaches and bitter almonds, contain cyanide.  It's part of the apple's way of protecting its offspring.  The level of cyanide is quite low, but if you store up a whole lot of apple seeds and eat them all at once, you can ingest enough cyanide to hurt or even kill you.”   Did  I mention that in one life, I seemed to die of cyanide poisoning?  It seems that the different types of peppers also can do a number on my system.

In the karma clearing, I asked for all reactions to all of the fruits and vegetables that I reacted with to be healed across all space and time and that the healing be brought into the present moment now and for all time to come.  So far, I am okay with green peppers and potatoes.

May you enjoy your food whole heartedly

Many blessing,

Judy
