Buffalo Solidarity

 image

Buffalo speaks…

“We say that the time of the Buffalo is coming once more.  Buffalo have kept the prairie savannahs healthy by the foraging and fertilizing that we do.  Buffalo has been the creator of much of the prairies and the sites that exist there.  “Buffalo grass, buffalo wallows, buffalo stones, buffalo shrubs, buffalo hallows, and buffalo haunt” are all phrases that come from the time the Buffalo shaped the vast spaces.

Once, before white man, the best food in North America was the meat of Buffalo.  It is lean and nutritious.  Consuming the meat made Man more kin to the herd, and gave Man more reverence for life.  That changed with the introduction of cattle.  Wild cattle roamed the very southern plains, and, to us, a variation of antelope.

There is a time coming where the cattle will decline, and Buffalo will be needed for all that it can provide to you.  We are grateful to become part of the natural cycle again.”

Black Fawn - Another Spirit Animal

One of my friends sent me this gorgeous set of pictures of a Black Fawn and its Deer family.  It is interesting, I think, that Mother Nature, The Universe, or what ever you wish to call the Power that keeps balance, does balance off the white fawns that are being born with one that is black.

I love the way the black fawn blends into the shadows in the second picture. The shadows remind me of a conversation I was having with one of my friends – that we all need to find and recognize the darkness in ourselves; that the shadow side of ourselves is a gift that allows us to recognize actions that are not for the highest good, and therefore, gives us the freedom of choice to choose to act in a different manner than perhaps our reflexes would have prompted us to act.

May you have the good fortune of meeting a white fawn or a black fawn, or a white deer or black deer.

Crab Motion

 image

Sometimes, in my meditation, I have the most unusual interactions with animals.  This post is about Crab and comes from a meditation journal from several years ago.

******************************

Crabs typically walk sideways (a behaviour which gives us the word crabwise). This is because of the articulation of the legs which makes a sidelong gait more efficient. – Wikipedia

Crab also moves forward and backward.  Crab says that motion, regardless of the direction, is still motion.  Motion carries you as you work through your purpose.  Purpose is simply taking action, doing what you know you need to do without the prompting or without following other’s expectations.

When you are in motion, you are searching.  Although you may believe that you know the destination, along the way, the destination may change.  Thus, you are ever watching for the signs that move you along.

Crab is always looking for food and for safety.  She tells you that along the journey that you are taking, life will be better if you remember to care for yourself, as part of safety, and that eating the foods that suit your body will also ensure your safety and health.  Specialists and doctors all have different ideas of what the best foods are.  You can tell what foods best serve you by simply holding them to your heart and hearing/feeling/knowing or seeing that the food suits you, or not.

Okapi Is A Spirit Animal

 image

This blog comes from my journal from years ago.

*******************************

“These are the last surviving relatives of giraffe. These elusive animals look more like a zebra than a giraffe. They are found in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These herbivores have red-brown coat of fur. They have white stripes on their legs. These animals are diurnal and forage through the forest searching for food. These animals are highly alert and will run away when they hear a human approaching. They are so secretive that they were not not known to the world till the 1900s. ~ Wikipedia

I was wondering what I would be writing about when the funniest thought popped into my head.

“Come and join me in the garden.”

I closed my eyes, and moved into the greenery and trees.

Okapi continued to graze, and occasionally, she would look at me.  She told me that life will catch you if you let it.

“The trick is to move away from those who wish to contain or to confine you.  Life is much better when you are free.  Freedom means different things to different beings.  Freedom is living how you wish to be and harming none.  We Okapi harm none but the grass and trees. In return, we fertilize them so they may grow strong.

What is it that you nourish and protect?  What is it that restricts you?  Is it self imposed?  Can you be free?”

Peregrine Falcon - Spirit Animal

 image

Last night, just after supper, we had quite the surprise!  A large peregrine falcon flew down into the yard, and sat on the fence.  After about five minutes, he took off, and flew through the trees.

I had a very busy day, and I realized that Falcon was coming in with a message for me.  The message, however, is applicable for anyone who is making changes, and who sometimes feels like they are alone in the forest.

  • Move when you need to find new territory or when the weather becomes unbearable and food is scarce.   Humans seem to think that they are rooted to one spot.  Falcon moves all over the world.
  • Live along mountain ranges, with a valley below, and lots of fresh water.  You will always have food.
  • When you see that you have the jump on your prey, take advantage of the element of surprise and do what you need to do.
  • Do not haphazardly destroy the food supply or even your enemies.  At some point, you may need the enemy to give assistance.
  • The element of air is very healing.  It carries light, and, although invisible, it can cushion you in times of falling.  Learn to work with the air.
May Falcon guide you when you need it to be there.

Blessings,
Judy

Spirit Speaks - Alone Really Means All One!

 image

Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
-from the Song “Alone” by the group, Heart

" Spend some time alone every day."
~His Holiness the Dalai Lama

"When you venture beyond identity, you realize that what you are is awakened consciousness. No longer a separate piece of the puzzle of life, but interconnected existence itself."  - J. M. Harrison

That’s it.  There is nothing more to say.

Blue Jay Says To Feel The Weather

 image

Blue Jay popped into our yard today, and foraged around for some seeds, and picked at some food that the dog left. He then popped up on a log, and started to chat.

He said that the signs are all pointing to an early winter, and that the food would be scarce for the birds and animals this winter.

I asked him how he knew.

He says that the birds and the animals can feel the weather and how it is shifting.  He said to watch some of the birds like the Artic Tern and the Robins.  They are heading south already, and that is early for them.

The squirrels, he says, are madly stashing food.  He says that the Blue Jays try to keep an eye on where they put the food because they can raid it if they get too hungry.

Blue Jay went on to say that the weather would fluctuate drastically, and that there would be extreme cold and snow, and then warm weather would hit.  This will cause melting and freezing that will make getting food on the ground very difficult because there will be a coat of ice.

Blue Jay asked me what we were going to do to prepare for the winter.  I said that we would harvest our garden, and get some farmer market veggies to store, and that we would get our snow blower checked over.  We also got our first load of wood, and hoped to get another load before the end of September.

Blue Jay said that we were doing well, and flew away.

Many blessings,

Judy
